An expired technical inspection will automatically suspend your registration — what changes for drivers in Ungheni

On 9 July, Parliament passed, in the second reading, a law that automatically suspends the registration of vehicles with an expired periodic technical inspection or with dangerous defects. When the inspection expires, the suspension applies immediately; for defects, after 30 days during which you may only drive to a garage. Anyone driving with a suspended registration risks fines of up to 1,200 lei and having their plates removed. The law takes effect in six months. For Ungheni residents the stake is concrete: 87 people died on the district's roads over ten years, and the inspection is done in town at just three stations.

Imported car with no original papers? Ungheni drivers no longer travel to Chișinău or Bălți to register it

Since late June, the Public Services Agency has simplified the registration of imported cars that lack original documents or have only a copy of the registration certificate. The step that forced owners to drive the car to one of three identification offices — in Chișinău, Bălți or Cahul — and wait up to three days has been dropped: technical identification is now done at any subdivision that registers vehicles, including in Ungheni.
